2006 was Max's final year in Cadets and he competed in the National and British Championships again. He entered the season with confidence and his campaign started well at the first round of Super 1 in March at Three Sisters when he crossed the line in 1st position, only to be controversially penalised and was docked a place to 2nd. Despite this confidence damaging set back, he pursued his ambition relentlessly and by the second round of Stars of Tomorrow, two podiums at Shenington put him firmly back as a serious contender. Despite some engine problems mid season, Max always scored well at every meeting, putting him in the battle for the S1 Championship right until the final round. Max took his maiden British Championship Victory at the Stars of Tomorrow round at Genk in Belgium. He backed this success up with victory at the British Open Championship in August.
